Hermès Tadelakt leather
A waxy, marbled calfskin with vivid color and a fear of water.

Tadelakt takes its name from the Moroccan lime plaster whose waxed, marbled look it recalls. Hermès dates it to 2007. It is smooth and semi-shiny, with no visible grain; it is often mistaken for Box. Collectors see it on the Kelly II Sellier and the Constance 18.
A few things worth knowing
- One Hermès product description dates it to 2007.
- It absorbs color deeply; bright shades look striking.
- Water can blister it: wipe drops immediately.

Look and feel
Smooth, semi-shiny and slightly waxy, with a marbled depth. Hermès describes a mottled color and a silky touch.
How it wears
Scratches. Without grain, it scratches easily. Marks soften with the years and light ones respond to cream.
Water. The main fear: it blisters on contact.
Shape. Holds well; corner wear is the most cited flaw.
Patina. Owners disagree on whether it patinas like Box. One owner kept a bag nearly flawless from 2011 to 2017 with regular repair visits.
Care
Wipe water at once. No heavy wax or oil. Some specialists suggest a light water repellent, tested out of sight first.
Who it suits
Careful owners, bright colors and occasional use.
Where the sources disagree
- Reputation. An entire owners' discussion asks whether its fragile reputation is deserved.
- Patina. Like Box or not, depending on the owner. Hermès says only that it becomes more satiny with time.
