Brief creation story

The story, in brief

This note has its own sources and limits. The inherited catalogue metadata elsewhere on this page remains provisional.

Daiske Nomura gives saddles an unexpected freedom in Tous en Selle. Hermès traces the design to examples preserved in its Conservatoire de Créations, alongside the rock-inflected and romantic qualities of the artist’s earlier illustrations. In the house’s description, the saddles hang as though they could fly. Their patterns and colors provide the energy of an otherwise light, uncomplicated composition, bringing preserved objects into an imagined space.[1]

The idea is appealingly economical: an object associated with carrying a rider seems ready to travel by itself. That gentle suspension invites a different sort of attention to saddlery, letting the saddle become a protagonist rather than something noticed only in relation to a horse. This is an interpretation of the composition, not an account of the artist’s intention.

For the recorded French product reference H004204S 02, Hermès specifies Gris Bleuté / Blanc / Beige Doré, silk twill and hand-rolled edges. Made in France, this carré 90 measures approximately 88.5 by 88.5 centimeters. The palette and measurements belong to this version.[1]
