Brief creation story

The story, in brief

This note has its own sources and limits. The inherited catalogue metadata elsewhere on this page remains provisional.

Pierre Marie’s Bouquets Sellier brings the stable into the flower arrangement. Hermès describes four bouquets assembled from straps, chains, harnesses and stirrups. Tassels take on the role of clustered flowers, spurs suggest daisies and riding crops become flower cups. Even horses’ heads enter the transformation. The account makes the pleasure of recognition central: the objects remain identifiable while accepting a second identity.[1]

The four arrangements are described as resting on folded horse blankets, with both sides of the textiles revealed. This explanation appears on a Twilly page that explicitly refers to the original scarf design; it should not be mistaken for a complete inventory of what survives in the narrower adaptation. Pierre Marie’s studio places his Hermès work within a broader practice of hand-drawn ornament and applied arts.[1][2]

The design can be read as a still life that refuses to stay within one category. A bouquet becomes a way to reconsider equipment and equipment becomes a way to reconsider a bouquet. Its humour depends less on disguising the original objects than on allowing both meanings to remain visible together.
